And then there were…..SIX!
That’s right, folks! Baby #4 is on it’s way! And we couldn’t be happier.
So before you ask, allow me.
- No, we weren’t necessarily trying for a girl.
- Yes, it was planned.
- Yes, we know what causes this thing called “pregnancy”.
- No, we are not (planning!) on going for #5, either to try for a girl or to start our own basketball team (YES, I have been asked both!).
- No, we are not crazy (…at least, I don’t think.)
- And yes, we simply, truly did want 4 children.
Ok, now that that’s out of the way.
I also thought it would be fun to post a few “bumpdate’s” as my pregnancy progresses. I’ve never been pregnant with a blog before, but I’ve always enjoyed reading other bloggers pregnancy updates, so here we go!
How far along: 15 weeks.
Baby update: We had our first appointment a couple weeks ago. Everything was great! We heard the heartbeat and even had an ultrasound to measure the baby’s growth. My due date was even moved up a week, which is always a nice thing to experience as a pregnant lady. 🙂
Also, for the first time, I had the blood test done which determines any genetic disorders and – bonus! – can determine baby’s gender, if you so desire.
(While pregnant with one of my other children, we were told he had a marker for down syndrome. After seeing a specialist and several other tests, he was determined to have a very low chance of having down syndrome. But ever since that experience, I’ve opted for the extra testing for peace of mind!)
Praise the Lord – the baby is completely healthy! And, keep reading to see what we’re having! 🙂
Weight gain: I don’t weigh myself regularly, but as of my last appointment I had gained about 10 lbs.
I tend to gain around 10 pounds during the first trimester regardless of how sick I am or how little I eat, so that was about right on track per the usual.
Food Aversions/ Cravings: During the entire first trimester I had pretty much all day sickness. Basically everything sounded gross, and it was very challenging to eat. If something did sound good at the time, I would take a couple bites and it would almost instantly repulse me again and it never sounded good after that. I ended up eating a lot of saltines!
Consistent food aversions included : coffee (which is SO sad, because I normally LOVE my morning coffee), and pretty much anything sweet (which again, is SO NOT me. I typically have a mega sweet tooth.)
Thankfully the majority of my food aversions have subsided, but I still do get nauseous at morning and night.
Physical changes: I DEFINITELY already have a baby bump. Which made it much more difficult to keep my pregnancy a secret. I have been in maternity clothes since approximately 7-8 weeks, not necessarily because I COULDN’T fit my normal jeans, but because my maternity jeans were WAY more comfortable.
But now, yeah. I definitely need the maternity jeans.
I suppose that’s pregnancy #4 for ya!
Workout: Not a single thing. The weather has not been great, and I’ve just been plain tired. Some days I feel like I can barely get through the normal day, let alone contemplate any exercising.
I am hoping to pick up some regular walking once the weather isn’t so crappy. (Winter and Spring in the Pacific Northwest, everyone.)
Pregnancy/baby related purchases: Nothing yet! Given that this is going to be my fourth baby, I already really have everything I need. Not saying I’m NOT going to buy anything because, come on, let’s be realistic here.
I have, however, had my eye on one of these…
Overall feeling…Actually, this week I have been feeling much better! This is the first week the nausea hasn’t been constant, though it’s definitely still there, and some days are still worse than others. But overall I have been feeling slightly more like myself. Thank goodness!
I do, however, tend to get VERY bad heartburn in all my pregnancies. And unfortunately the constant nausea has almost instantly been replaced with heartburn already.
And I’m tired – like exhausted – ALL the time.
Difference from other pregnancies: Actually, nothing so far! This pregnancy has been very similar to my other 3!
And in case you were wondering….
Baby #4 is…ANOTHER BOY!
I honestly wasn’t very surprised. I would have been WAY more surprised to find out we were having a girl. And let’s face it, we just don’t make girls. We are very excited! It’s honestly probably just easier to throw in another boy, instead of having to start all over from scratch with a girl.
So that’s the latest “big news” for our family!
And in case you want a laugh this morning, I thought I’d share my (MANY) progression of attempts at getting at least ONE successful “reveal” photo…as you can see, no such luck.
Have a great weekend!
